Skrining fitokimia dan aktivitas antibakteri dari Citrullus colocynthis (Linn.) Schrad terhadap Staphylococcus aureus

Abstrak

Citrullus colocynthis (Linn.) Schrad (CCT) merupakan tanaman obat yang penting milik keluarga Cucurbitaceae. Ini adalah tanaman yang diakui dalam obat tradisional dan digunakan oleh orang-orang di daerah pedesaan sebagai antidiabetes, pencahar dan insektisida. Dalam penelitian ini, setelah skrining fitokimia CCT melalui prosedur eksperimental standar, sifat antibakteri tanaman ini dipelajari. Aktivitas antibakteri dari daun CCT dan ekstrak buah-buahan (air dan etanol) terhadap strain standard (ATCC 25923) dan rumah sakit terisolasi dari Staphylococcus aureus dari pasien pengobatan Novobiocin dievaluasi menggunakan metode difusi disk. Efek penghambatan dari ekstrak dibandingkan dengan antibiotik standar, Novobiocin. Skrining fitokimia dari CCT mengungkapkan adanya tanin, saponin, alkaloid, dan glikosida flavonoides. Ekstrak etanol menunjukkan aktivitas penghambatan terhadap S. aureus lebih dari ekstrak air dan efek ini adalah dosis tergantung cara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 5 mg / mL ekstrak etanol buah memiliki efek penghambatan yang sama dengan Novobiocin terhadap strain standar. Kami menyarankan salah satu komponen kimia yang ada dalam ekstrak etanol seperti alkaloid, glikosida flavonoides dan dapat memiliki efek antibakteri yang kuat bahkan lebih dari Novobiocin, terutama terhadap strain terisolasi di rumah sakit. Penelitian ilmiah memvalidasi penggunaan bahan tanaman dalam pengobatan tradisional.

Abstrak

Citrullus colocynthis (Linn.) Schrad (CCT) is an important medicinal plant belonging to the family of Cucurbitaceae. It is a well recognized plant in the traditional medicine and was used by people in rural areas as a purgative, antidiabetic and insecticide. In the present investigation, after phytochemical screening of CCT through standard experimental procedure, antibacterial properties of this plant were studied. The antibacterial activity of CCT leaves and fruits extracts (water and ethanolic) against standard (ATCC 25923) and hospital isolated strains of Staphylococcus aureus from novobiocin treatment patients were evaluated using disc diffusion method. The inhibitory effects of this extracts were compared with standard antibiotic, novobiocin. Phytochemical screening of CCT revealed the presence of tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoides and glycosides. The ethanolic extract showed inhibitory activity against S. aureus more than water extract and this effect was dose dependent manner. Results indicated that 5 mg/mL fruits ethanolic extract have a similar inhibitory effect with novobiocin against standard strain. We suggest one of the chemical components that exist in ethanolic extract such as alkaloids, flavonoides and glycosides can have a powerful antibacterial effect even more than novobiocin, especially against hospital isolated strains. The study scientifically validates the use of plant materials in traditional medicine.
